Job Description:
What you will do:
The Financial Analyst conducts and documents complex financial
analysis to assist in strategic financial decisions and plays a key
role in supporting and developing financial analysis in a variety
of areas including and not limited to Metrics reporting, Product
Line Analysis, Trade Spending, and supports the large inflow of new
financial analysis projects including some month-end closing
duties, so good GAAP and accounting theory skills are very helpful.
This role will also assist in the development of appropriate
metrics for the business to measure growth and profitability while
assisting in delivering innovative, high value-added financial
information for strategic decision making. This role reports to a
Category Finance Manager and works closely with the Senior
Financial Analyst, Director of Commercial Finance and the Manager
of FP&A. They will have a business partner within the Cost
Accounting group that they are expected to collaborate with
regularly.
Here s a day in the life:
Responsible for evaluating current financial performance in several
key areas.
Review Gross Margins versus budgets and forecasts and provide
analysis of variances.
Perform some month end closing duties including account
reconciliations.
Participates in cross-functional teams and provide financial
analysis to evaluate investments and process changes.
Reviews economics of SKU mix for various product lines and
recommend changes.
Provides economic payback analysis for proposed product changes,
including packaging changes product line extensions product
category extensions, and new products.
Cross trains with other Analysts to provide back up.
Assists the Manager of FP&A in preparing monthly forecasts and
annual budget presentations.
Supports cross functional teams with the preparation of their
annual budgets.
Act as a team player with the ability to establish and maintain
effective relationships with employees within all levels of the
organization.
Communicate effectively.
Utilize a computer with advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office
applications, including exceptional knowledge of Excel.
Works under pressure, meet deadlines, produce accurate reports and
be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously.
Demonstrate excellent time-management skills with the ability to
work independently with little supervision.
May also include:
Reviewing Selling, Marketing, General and Administrative, Human
Resources, and IT Expenses versus budget and forecast.
Reviewing economic return for capital project requests.
Evaluating the incremental net income as a result of marketing and
trade expenditures.
Collaborating with supply chain to evaluate current logistics costs
and evaluating proposals to minimize costs and to better serve
customers.
Evaluating options for maximizing return for excess products and
inventory items with special quality grading.
Providing analysis for manufacturing quantity and cost variances
versus budget and forecasts.
Understanding BOM structure; able to review BOMS for integrity.
Reviewing manufacturing standards.
Supporting Monthly Forecasts by providing key inputs to expected
changes in category margins.
Determining proper allocation methodologies for corporate
department.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting or Business Administration
is required; MBA degree preferred.
3-5 years of experience in cost accounting, financial analysis and
general accounting is required.
Past experience working through complex product profitability and
new product development analysis is required.
Experience in automating and improving processes to gain
efficiency, improve accuracy and produce high quality work is
required.
High level ERP and system experience is required; High level Trade
Spending system experience is preferred.
Consumer Packaged Good experience is preferred. Experience with a
Cooperative is desirable.
Strong Manufacturing experience is required.
High level of efficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power
Point.
Must have strong knowledge of GAAP and fully understand accounting
theory.
CMA, CPA or CFA is preferred.
Valid Oregon driver s license with satisfactory driving record.
